As Valentine’s Day rolls around, we generally think about that special someone…or lack thereof. Naturally, we crave love and intimate connections, but we tend to neglect the most important relationship of all. The relationship and love we have for ourselves. The power of self-love goes a long way.
Self-love is the foundation of a fulfilling and balanced life. It’s not just feeling good in the moment – it’s about treating yourself with kindness, respect, and care every day. Prioritizing self-love through healthy habits improves mental, emotional, and physical well-being, allowing you to show up as your best self day after day. While self-love looks different for every person, here are some practical and meaningful habits to help you embrace a healthier and happier relationship with YOU.
1. Practice Positive Self-Talk:

Start your day with positive affirmations! It’s easy to be your own worst critic, but speaking those negativities makes it much harder to truly love and appreciate yourself. If you’re having a hard time coming up with positive affirmations, feel free to use affirmation music, meditations, or tapes. (Insight Timer is a free app with tons of these!) Empower yourself through simple statements such as “I am enough”.
2. Nourish Your Body:
Eat whole foods in a variety of colors, stay hydrated (electrolytes!!!), move your body every day, whether you take your dog for a walk, have a dance party with your kids in the kitchen, stretch in your living room, or get in a full workout, movement is one of the best and biggest forms of self-care and self-respect.
3. Engage in Mindfulness:
Take time to be truly present. This can be done in many ways, such as journaling, meditation, reading, simply sitting and listening to calming music, breath work, etc. Taking the time to “woosah” without distractions helps reduce stress and strengthens your connection with yourself.
4. Create a Daily Ritual:
This can be literally anything that makes you feel good. 5 minutes of direct sunlight, a facemask, morning yoga, dry brushing, etc. Think self-care. For example, the first thing each morning, I make a healthy mocktail with all my supplements. Until this drink, I did not allow myself to check my phone. It helps to set the tone for the day and start it off positive without dopamine spikes.
5. Do Something That Brings You Joy:
Whether it’s art, spending time with loved ones, rock climbing, snowboarding, biking, or reading, prioritize activities that make you feel happy and fulfilled each day. As a mom, I know how hard this one can be, but even just 15 minutes after the kiddos are in bed to do a little something makes all the difference.

Power of self-love
Self-love isn’t selfish—it’s essential. By practicing these habits, you cultivate a deeper appreciation for yourself. When you love and believe in yourself, it’s easier to achieve your goals while living a balanced and fulfilled life. Embrace the power of self-love.
