Abandon the gym— embrace the freedom of the great outdoors!

If you have been to a summit before, you know the gym is just a tool. We encourage using the gym to better prepare for the sport/activity/hobby of choice outdoors. Maybe you are an alpine skier. You will meet your gym quota days in November with squats and lunges to be prepared come January to withstand long days in deep powder. Or you race mountain bikes, and then February will be lockdown mode in the gym getting those anaerobic sets in. Come April, you won’t be gassed on the first climb of the season. Abandon the gym after all the hard work you put in leading up to your “Season” of choice.

In honor of the coldest day yet this winter in Wisconsin (currently -14), here is a reminder to get moving in the gym to properly prepare those fingers and forearms for the beautiful spring climbing that will be here before we know it.

Put the dedicated training time in now at the gym so that come spring, you can abandon the gym for a couple of months and confidently crush.
